CHICAGO, IL — Two daycare employees have been charged after one woman burned five toddlers with a glue gun while the other woman watched and laughed.
After a woman picked her child up from the Children’s Learning Place she noticed her child was suffering from burn injuries.
The mother, an ER technician, called the daycare and demanded an explanation and for the classroom surveillance footage to be reviewed.
The footage was reviewed and captured 32-year-old Lizandra Cosme, who had 16 children under her care, doing some pretty stupid things to some of the children with a hot glue gun she had brought to use on a Christmas project.
Cosme could be seen applying the glue gun directly to the hands and arms of five 2-year-old children – three girls and two boys – as they winced and whined. While Cosme was doing this, 27-year-old Susana Gonzalez watched and laughed.
After both women were fired from the daycare, Cosme was charged with five counts of aggravated battery to a child. Gonzalez was charged with misdemeanor counts of causing the circumstances of endangering a child.
Daycare spokeswoman Lissa Druss Christman said the following in an email: “The well-being of our students is paramount. Upon learning of the alleged incident, we notified DCFS immediately and terminated two of our employees. We are currently working with investigators.”
